The brief for the Atelier Malkovich ideas competition asked for the design of an innovative and functional studio for the contemporary artist. It should address the changing of both their role in society and their working methods. Eight winning designs were built as small pavilions to the peculiar scale of 1:2 – neither building nor model, half symbol and half piece of art. ‘Although Bella Sky is the Nordic region’s largest hotel, we have done everything to ensure that the hotel doesn’t give the typical impersonal and formal feeling that so often defines large hotels,’ says 3XN Architects’ founder and partner, Kim Herforth Nielsen. ‘Therefore, we decided to interpret the overall theme as New Nordic Cool (read more…)

In 2005, The Ann Arbor District Library (AADL) purchased approximately 4 acres of property for a new branch library to serve the Northeast quadrant of the city of Ann Arbor. This was to be the third branch library constructed by the current administration since 2002 and would replace a 4000 sq.ft. branch library within an existing strip mall located along a nearby commercial corridor (read more…)

Family House in Všeradice / studio pha
The plot of land is marked by its sharp southwards slope and its limited access with complicated bends, which also place a limit on the building’s height level. On the land are several notable mature trees. The house is inspired by the proportions of traditional vernacular rural building without inhabited attic spaces, i.e. without a need to insert windows into the roof surface(read more…)

Las bases para el concurso de ideas Malkovich Atelier pidió el diseño de un estudio innovador y funcional para el artista contemporáneo. Se debe abordar el cambio tanto de su papel en la sociedad y sus métodos de trabajo. Ocho diseños ganadores fueron construidos como pequeños pabellones para la escala particular de 1:02 - ni la construcción ni el modelo, símbolo de la mitad y la mitad de la pieza de arte. El terreno se caracteriza por su fuerte pendiente hacia el sur y su acceso limitado a curvas complicadas, que también pone un límite en la altura del nivel del edificio.
